Hi! I'm not sure what is going on. I have my normal "I'm busy working" grinding noise but I also have an even louder grinding noise going on in my computer. I did read one Q&A regarding the noise but I don't think I've crashed my computer...yet. I can still retrieve all my files and haven't lost anything that I know of. I just purchased this computer in November of 2003. If you can't help should I go through HP or the place of purchase. (I HATE dealing with HP).

I hope you can help. Thank you!

Nancy

Have a great day/weekend.

If you're not comfortable opening up your computer, do not Take it to a repair shop.

If you decide to open your pc make sure you leave it plugged in when it is open and just look to see what is making the loud grinding sound Don't poke around inside the computer while it's running You could damage the computer or yourself If you determine that the noise is coming from a fan, there are two possible causes The fan might just be dusty Using a can of compressed air to blow the dust off the fan might quiet it If dust isn't causing the fan to be noisy, it needs to be replaced If the fan is inside the power supply, you'll want to replace the entire power supply If the noise seems to be coming from your hard drive, the drive is most likely on the verge of failing and should be replaced as soon as possible But i would not recommend opening up your pc, if it is still under warranty you will void your warranty So i suggest take it to a repair shop.
